E INK WINS FLEXI AWARD
Phoenix, Arizona, Feb 11, 2011– The FlexTech Alliance announced recipients of the 2011 FLEXI Awards at the 10th annual Flexible Electronics & Displays Conference and Exhibition held February 7-12, 2011, in Phoenix, Ariz. The FLEXI Awards recognize significant accomplishments in R&D, innovative product development, and leadership in education within the flexible, printed electronics and displays industries. E Ink won the award for its global innovation of electrophoretic displays in the flexible display industry. The award was accepted by E Ink's Vice President of Research & Advanced Development, Dr. Michael McCreary, at a ceremony held in Phoenix this week.
"E Ink is a pioneer in the field of flexible displays and has maintained its leadership by collaborating and supporting various industry partners." said Michael Ciesinski, President and CEO of FlexTech Alliance. "This global innovation award is a recognition of their contribution to the flexible display industry".
Displays made with E Ink's Imaging Film are ideally suited for flexible display applications due to their thin form factor and inherent flexibility. While E Ink's display materials already enable fully flexible displays in products such as wrist watches, smart cards, battery indicators and digital signs, flexible backplane technology for high-resolution, active matrix displays is not yet commercialized. E Ink's dual pigment imaging films in platforms such as Vizplex and Pearl are the display of choice for most of the researchers working on flexible backplanes. E Ink is partnered with over a dozen leading technology companies in the effort to build flexible high resolution active matrix displays.
"E Ink is honored to win the FLEXI Award," said Dr. CC Tsai, Chief Technology Officer for E Ink Holdings, "We have worked closely with our partners to help realize the vision of truly flexible displays that can enable very rugged displays and open new market opportunities in areas such as education."
In July 2010 E Ink announced their next generation display technology, E Ink Pearl™, which features the whitest reflective display in the industry with a contrast ratio approximately 50 percent greater than previous products. In November 2010, E Ink announced the launch of their first commercially available color product, E Ink Triton™, which features 16 levels of grayscale, and is capable of displaying thousands of colors.
